Physical Fitness

"Physical fitness is the basis for all other forms of excellence."
-President John F. Kennedy

Muscular Strength – Is the ability to exert maximum force, usually in a single repetition. At Webster we use the CURL-UP and the PUSH-UP tests for Muscular Strength.

Muscular Endurance – Is the ability to repeat an activity many times, or to hold a particular position for an extended amount of time. At Webster we use the CURL-UP and the PUSH-UP tests for Muscular Endurance.

Flexibility – Is a joint’s ability to move free through a full and normal range of motion. At Webster we use the Shoulder Stretch and the Trunk Lift tests for Flexabilty.

Aerobic Capacity – The body's ability to process oxygen. It is a combination of lung capacity, the size of the capillaries, the pumping action of the heart and the transfer of oxygen from red blood cells to target tissues. Aerobic Capacity is the highest amount of oxygen consumed during maximal exercises in activities that use the large muscle groups in the legs or/and arms. At Webster we use the MILE RUN as our Aerobic Capacity test.

Body Composition – In physical fitness, body composition is used to describe the percentages of fat, bone, and human muscle in human bodies. Muscular tissues takes up less space in our body than fat tissue, our body composition, as well as our weight, determine leanness. Two people at the same height and same body weight may look completely different from each other because they have a different body composition.

At Webster we use the BODY MASS INDEX or BMI tests Body Composition. We use the student’s height and weight. We calculate their BMI by using this website:
