hello Webster Family welcome to Webster my name is Miss Mason I am the principal here at Webster Middle School and I have with me to wonderful staff members were going to introduce themselves I am mr. Cox and I'm the dean hi I'm at salvino's and I'm your counselor today we have a very special and very important presentation for you that you're going to be watching right now during your advisory class and it is on our expectations of behavior so Webster Scholars are dedicated to Excellence the gold our time together here are to review the expectations that are necessary for your success in culmination and Beyond those three goals that we're going to talk about today are attendance behave coursework and Content Mastery this is a picture that we show to all of our students every year because this picture represent everything that you work for as you are here at Webster this is time that you stand with your friends your teachers your family to celebrate all of the work that you've done to be able to culminate and move on the next level in order to accomplished. We will talk a little bit today about the Webster way those 7th and 8th graders here at Webster are very familiar with this and are sixth graders were knowing that you are also going to be very much we're of the Webster way it is just three principles that everything else is based on being safe being prepared and being responsible we encourage our students to follow the Webster by celebrating their practices of following safe be prepared and being responsible tickets that have been given to students and prizes for students who are caught Webster way being responsible also means keeping your Camp is clean so here are a couple of examples of our students during attrition or lunchtime following the Webster way being responsible also means that we watch your behavior and we select students who have demonstrated that they're able to be safe be prepared to be responsible but they have been able to lead our all School and hopefully you may have that opportunity as well by following also there are great opportunities that also exists for a student things like being able to participate in our capped with communities school or being a part of the leadership class or even being able to be a part of some of our out-of-class experiences like Mesa some of our steam activities or you could be a part of the students who would make our announcements in the morning with Mr cornet so let's talk about that first objective attendance attendance is important because your grades go down when you're not around now we know that you're not here with us physically this year but you are around virtually every day you have your various . and the expectation is that you show up to class so that you will have good grades as a result so what is good attendance of course the goal is 100% with absolutely no abscess because we know that you being here you are way more likely to get the grades that you want to come at 8 here at Webster and to graduate when you get to high school proficient or good attendant is no more than seven absences for the entire school year that's 96 to 99% present in all of your classes being absent even one day a month too many days after that means ultimately no more than 3 absences in an entire semester so please remember to show up to your classes so you might be wondering well sometimes I have a very valid reason to be absent well they're two categories they're excused absences which are very few things that are reasonable reasons to be at 7 and then we have a whole list that you see on the rights of all these reasons why you might not be able to make it to class but those are unexcused an excused absence is either you are ill or injured you have a dental or medical appointment there's a funeral that you need to attend and that is only one day if it's within the state and no more than 3 days out of state unexcused absences you see them here Christmas Vacation bad weather the emergency we're hoping that especially now since you can get the class anywhere from your device that you should have no reason to be active I'm going to turn it over now to mr. Cox so a tenant story all online classes is mandatory if you're having trouble logging on to a class you must take action to let the school know as soon as possible you can crash your parent or Guardian to call the school if you don't notify the school then you will be marked absent truancy the expectation is that you show for all classes that you're assigned to every day and stay for the entire duration now if you don't show up for a class you're considered true it unless your parent or guardian of the school that explains your if you show up to a class but leave without permission before the end of the class you're also considered Troy unless your parent or Guardian submits a note to the school which explains your Early Access if you're in a class and you run into Tech problems and that prevents you from staying logged in during the class just remember to email your teacher or have your parents Guardian contact the school as soon as possible so why is it that it's important is it a social know what's happening in class be taking advantage of the chance to go to school everyday or see it shows that you're dedicated to getting your education or D All the Above correct answer is D all of the above Behavior so we'll talk a little bit about what our Behavior expectations are especially as it relates to online learning this year we want you guys to stay sharp so what does it mean to be a sharp student Webster yes dance for studious and sure that you're studying and taking ownership in your learning he is to be helpful help out anyone that needs assistance that includes classmates parents teachers or siblings be helpful make sure you're paying attention during your online classes ARS respectful in sure that anything that you post online disrespectful to your classmates and your teachers and finally PS4 positive a positive attitude about your online focus on the good the most importantly know that your participation helps out not just you but everyone at the Western Community all right I do want you to that behavior is graded we received marks for not just our academics but for our work habits and our cooperation with our teachers and our peers marks are either an easy for excellent and ask for satisfactory or a used for unsatisfactory when it comes to work habits excellent means exceptional determination and completing your assignment has Factory is that you are showing determination and unsatisfactory means that you're showing very little determination in completing your assignment when it comes cooperation excellent news that you obey the satisfactory means you obey the rules most of the time his Factory which is something that none of us should get it shows that you do not follow the rules and you have disregard for the you'll learn a little bit more about behavior in the second half of our presentation so an e or F and work habits mean a you did none of your assignments be you did most of most or all of your assignments and you counselor Miss albanez Taco combination requirements welcome back to my 7th and 8th graders and a big Welcome to our brand new sixth graders I'm going to be talking about culmination requirements color combination fireman's free certificate of completion have three important factors attendance behavior and your class work Behavior marks are as follows you no more than true use incorporation for used total on either the fall or spring semester 20-week report card that is the final report card for each semester you have to maintain a good behavioral record excessive suspensions or other disciplinary situations can prevent a student from participating in the culmination ceremony eighth grade work you must receive a passing grade of C or better on the fall and spring semester 20-week report card with no more than 2 as for the entire school year so this is just a graph that shows you what are the grades that we expect for you to earn during your school year is also lines up with high school so we're really prepare you to maintain applications As you move on after Webster so let's see if you guys have been paying attention if a student has two A's two B's 2DS 1s for the 8th grade year can he or she culminate the answer is no you can't you can have no more than shoot either ask for the entire school year the sooner you learn this less than the easier the school year will bullying bullying is when one person hurts or harms another with words or behaviour the Harm's done on purpose the first being hurt as a hard time making it stopped and the kids are doing it have more power either older bigger stronger or popular or any group The Bullying can be physical it can be verbal you can be emotional and it can also be Cyberbully bowling 101 what's that you're being bullied what should you do the first thing is tell someone tell a parent teacher or trusted adult develop a plan on how to make a stop know this you don't deserve to be bullied if you are a bully understand that your actions are hurting someone know that it's never okay to hurt someone and realize that everyone does is respect and the difference is the part of the world ask for help from your parents teacher a trusted adult or friend if you were a witness to bullying if you see bullying be an ally not a bystander let others know that you do not accept bowling and others will be more willing to help to and then go back and check in with the person that's being bullied and make sure that they're okay and finally sure that you tell an adult also remember that there's a difference between telling and tattling telling is done to protect yourself or another student from getting her tablang is when you tell on somebody to get them in trouble now harassment and sexual harassment harassment means that you tease bother or annoy someone sexual harassment means is you're going to tear these bother or annoy someone because they're a boy girl it's behavior that is unwanted and sexual nature there are three types of harassment you can be verbal or written work in the physical I would say you're being harassed how'd it go stop first tell the person stop next to school third tell him to Delta at home and be sure you write down what's happening I can be important Dean's office the goal is for everybody to engage in appropriate behaviors at all times during online learning remember you can be referred to the dean and I want to remind you guys that Ethan is stupid online that has to do with a student that you go to school with you can be held accountable for at school that means that if you post something mean or asking or annoying about a classmate even if it's done on a Saturday night from your living room the fact that you guys go to school together and just you can be accountable at school so don't do it be sure that everything that you post online about any classmate that you follow what we talked about earlier think before you talk beware of Miss gossip and Mister rumor I can't tell you how many times we've had a dispute between two kids that come in to the dean office very mad at each other and it turns out that when we talked to him and we say well what did he say to you or what did she say to you and it turns out he'd never even spoken to each other it's all based on noise and hearsay from classmates no friends get into arguments or fight when they listen to the wrong people don't let that happen don't let Miss gossiping Mister rumor make up things tell you things that they heard our friend said this whatever don't don't fall into that don't believe anything unless the person tells you directly or you see it don't be a fool don't listen to miss gossip in the storeroom talk to an adult we want you to know that there's a lot of adults on campus that can help you out you can come talk to me you talk to mr.
