S.T.E.A.M. Magnet Center
Webster's S.T.E.A.M. Magnet Center uses various interdisciplinary collaborative lessons to integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, social studies, language arts and mathematics to inspire our learners' curiosity and perseverance. Our integrated approach to holistically teach the “whole child” by engaging students hands on, inquiry based learning experiences allows us to reach more students during their time here with us at Webster. One aspect of STEAM is the application of how arts are woven in lessons as a means to connect creativity and the development of solutions to real world challenges. The arts as a discrete field of study is included in the core curriculum as a critical aspect of each student’s educational program. STEAM is unique in that students are building functional literacy across the traditional STEM fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while also participating in integrated and interdisciplinary fields of study that include the language arts, physical sciences, social sciences, and the arts.
There are three theme-based pathways available to students within the magnet and are based on each child’s passions and interests. Families interested in applying to the magnet program must submit an application on the District’s magnet website, echoices.lausd.net or complete an application in the Choices brochure.
