What is Dual Language Education?
In Dual Language Education, students receive instruction in all content areas in both English and a second language (referred to as the target language) beginning in kindergarten. At the elementary level, students have a minimum of 50% of each instructional day in the target language. At the secondary level, students have a minimum of two periods in a six period day that are taught 100% in the target language.
What is a French Two-Way Immersion Program?
A French Two-Way Immersion (TWI) Program offers educational content and literacy instruction in English and French. With a minimum of two courses are offered in the target language during the instructional day at each grade level. With the purpose of promoting bilingualism and biliteracy, high levels of academic achievement, and sociocultural competence.
Why chose a Two-Way Immersion (TWI) Program?
The process of becoming bilingual includes a transformation of one’s identity. In the simplest form one goes from being a monolingual to a bilingual person. At a more complex level, that new identity includes entering the community and history of other speakers of the language.
